Cool, but...

Cool piece, but too repetetive. Even without major melodic/chordal changes, this one could have benefited hugely from variations in orchestration. It could work well cinematically, but to double as straight-up listening material it needs a bit of work. I just feel like there is a lot more potential within the already existent song structure - more that could be done within the boundaries, so to speak.

Still a good piece though, keep it up - the more classical/orchestral artists, the better! Oh, and would I be correct in guessing the use of Edirol Orchestral?

Yep!

I was aiming for that short "Kerry Muzzey" type of song. Not really a favorite unless you're a weirdo like me. But yeah, I see what you mean.

Thanks!

Great concept and production

Excellent production, and very well-executed. I would have liked to hear some more variance in synth textures and perhaps some more genre-specific creative license taken with the actual arrangement of the original piece itself. When the piano comes in, it feels a bit TOO forced, perhaps have the electro instruments not cut out so abruptly.

Keep it up, cool and VERY listenable stuff.

Godknown responds:

Thank you VERY much for your positive input. I'm still somewhat working on it, as I am a perfectionist, and the work is seemingly... never done. =]

I did try adding in the synth with the piano before I came out with this on newgrounds, but it didn't have as dramatic an effect as just the piano alone. However, maybe it was a bit overdramatic, so I'm going to try out just keeping the synth in there.

Anyways, thank you very much for the review, and take care!

Classic piece, but....

This song is a classic, but you've taken no real liberties with the arrangement and it sounds like I'm just listening to it on the SNES.

Forgetting that, the song is WAAAY TOO LOOUD!! There's a difference between having a loud song and having a song that is VERY POORLY MIXED! At this volume, you get tons of distortion, which is a HUGE no-no.

knuxrouge responds:

Wow, it wasn't supposed to be this loud. I don't quite understand....I'm positive that it wasn't this loud when I was making it. Its probably Newgrounds. Damn, these things always happen to me, whatever, thanks for your review.
For the record the SNES version has no piano, probably an osc.

Extremely Cinematic

Extremely cinematic. The use of effects gives it some kind of connotation that might be explained by film. Interesting use of dissonance and ambience in the beginning with the piano.

Experimenting with music, that's what it's all about...
Oh, and you're using EWQLSO, aren't you. Great symphonic library.

DeathbyGamingX responds:

ewqlso.....hmmm sounds like a automated name that my ipod would choose... when its being gay.. but thank you.. im working on making a different feel in my music and hopefully i will get a longer song one of these days im not so impatient and anxious to submit...
but other than that... I appreciate your review.. and no i have no idea what ewqlso is....

Very nice...

Very nice of EWQLSO, if I do say so myself! (I know the sound of those samples like the back of my hand.) My only recommendation would be to take advantage of more of the included articulations for certain string passages, where the switching between notes sounds either awkward or late, as well as general realism for all instruments. Of course, the amount of articulations you can use depends on which version of EWQLSO you have, so I don't think that's too big of a deal right now.

I definitely like this piece, good atmosphere and solid pacing - I feel it could use more Brass though, maybe a French Horn or some trombones in the climactic/louder sections.

Keep it up!!

SilentTakedown responds:

I like my song, but I don't think, that there are some brasses needed. That would destroy the atmosphere.
I wanted to sound it "magical".
The don't wanted to change the strings or the attack, I've chosen them wisely, because of the atmossphere.

You're right, it's EWQLSOG, you got trained ears I see...
Thanks for the effort to review my song!
