Great sound

Kickass instrumentation and production. I've heard better from you musically, but I do think your efforts in fine-tuning every bit of the song really did pay off. I felt the climactic string section in the last third of the song lost a bit of direction/focus at one point. The atmosphere and care for realism is quite apparent and well done.

Good stuff as usual!!

Total Classic!

An ingenious and funny use of the sounds from Half-Life! Well done!

Wait...

Wait, so you found this in a piano book? That makes it NOT an original piece. That makes it against NG Audio Portal rules (pr pretty much anywhere else). But that doesn't matter too much here because this song obviously doesn't have huge copyrights attached to it.

Anyway, the song is okay. But why would you bother uploading something you didn't write yourself? To provide flash-makers with more music? Fair enough, but I'll say again - but the AP is for original stuff only!

Great!

This piece was fun to listen to and sounded great. Nice suspenseful progressions, a good basic action-buildup piece. The Duduk was awesome, added a whole new layer of atmosphere to the piece which gave it a unique flair.

So, this is new software? Sounds good, which software specifically is it?

Production-wise, all the levels sound good, things mesh together nicely, but the overall/master level of the volume is horrendous! Constant clipping throughout the song. Reading the mixer on my wave output, the levels were in the red 75% of the time (during all the "heavier" parts which are the majority of the track)! The song's volume needs to be lowered a lot, then limited or compressed so it will still be as loud and strong as you want it without distortion constantly fuzzing in my ears and detracting from the quality of the song!

Anyway, great track, looking forward to more. Keep it up! And I have no problems hearing piano on every track, or Duduk for that matter - love'em both!

Cool, but...

Cool, but the track doesn't carry enough weight or complexity to be a solo piano track. The progression and style could be added onto easily, luckily. More would have to be added to this for the piano to stand alone in this track.

Would work great as part of a bigger mix, though, for sure!

well, remix it if you feel for it :D
I can sure try too ^^

Hey!

This song really reminds of the IT (Impulse tracker) music from the game "Deus Ex", the first one that came out in 2000. Not only is the musical style hugely similar but the sound is as well - the pizzicato strings at the beginning are especially familiar in timbre.

Overall, this song was not amazing but could benefit from better sampler instruments, I reckon. However, it was a pretty solid track, just found parts here and there a bit weak. With more realistic and intense software instruments this track's impact would double! A good listen, no doubt.

As for the genre, I'd stick it in videogame, seems to fit the "electro-rock" style that can't really be named otherwise.

Keep it up.

Thanks well, maybe video game genre would be good, since I usually think about one while creating music.

Thanks for the review!

Excellent

A heavily-textured, complex, well-orchestrated and interesting piece. Only thing that bugs me is the extremely simple piano part - for some reason I feel like it would be a waste of a concert pianist, haha. But with no other instrument or combination of instruments can you get that specific sound, so it tends to work pretty well in the context of this song. All the little flourishes of strings, bells, oboe, and the brass "rips" are a great touch.

I love it, keep it up!

thanx
that with piano doubling the bass line and play simple things you can hear in several classical works (The Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saƫns ) and also some film scores (Dick Tracy by Danny Elfmann)
well, i didn't calculate anything, this popped into my mind like it is, in a very specific moment
i think my mind transpose feeling directly into music sometimes... lucky me :))
thanx for your nice words

Great

Would have been right at home in early PC games that relied mostly on MIDI or console chipsets. Nice work.

Cool.

While musically I'm not a huge fan of this track, I have to admit it was damn cool to listen to. In terms of using this in say, a videogame, it would be kickass.

Production-wise, this was slick. A really heavy pumping feeling from all the compression and what sounded like some kind of sidechain ducking going on? The verbed-out bass in the beginning was nice and ominous (in a totally non-evil way haha) and reminded me hugely of one of the early tracks heard in the city in Half-Life 2 that starts very similarly, further evoking the city feel that the title of the song suggests.

I feel like after a while the song is suffocating your ears though, maybe some breaks, cuts, or some kind of headroom could be cleared intermittently with the more packed section from 1:40ish - 2:40ish.

Overall, in one word, COOL. Keep it up.

Excellent.

Despite what "MarioKartFrantic" said about the chips, I understand exactly everything you said regarding the technical details of the music. The VRC6 Castlevania 3 soundtrack is my favourite game soundtrack of all time, I think. I'm a huge fan of 8-bit overall, I'm working on album of 8-bit tunes remade into symphonic pieces. I have one or two of those tracks uploaded here if you want to check them out.

So anyway, as such, I loved this track. What can I say? 8-bit style emulated to perfection, not just in sound but in composition as well. You captured nicely the musical devices used in the original music, and the solo was a nice touch that you wouldn't normally find in a NES piece. Keep it up, you have a new fan.
